The SAFE Network includes emergency food organizations, healthcare, education, and government institutions, data scientists and families in the Cincinnati area.

SAFE Year One Report

Inequity in food security is a massive, long-standing, deeply rooted, and urgent problem here in Cincinnati, Ohio, as in many other U.S. cities. Many factors drive food insecurity and inequity, including political, social, and logistical challenges and its elimination will require multiple points of intervention at multiple levels, from community to policy levels.

To accomplish the audacious yet necessary goal of eliminating food insecurity and inequity across Cincinnati, SAFE adapted the framework used by learning healthcare systems and have nurtured the growth of a family-centered, community-driven, cross-sector learning network aimed at creating food and nutrition equity for children and families.

Within this report, you will find our efforts to date with a focus on our early impacts and how we have achieved them. We share our approach, along with our early successes, persistent challenges, and next steps in hopes that they may inform and inspire. We have a long way to go, and we are on our way.
